Martin Scorsese

US director Martin Scorsese meets Monday 72, of which 51 dedicated to cinema. Of Sicilian parents, he was born on November 17, 1942 in NewYork, scene of many of his films.

The topics covered his films ranging from the Italian-American life, the concepts of guilt and redemption of the Catholic Church, as well as corruption and violence in American society.

His filmography includes titles such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellasand The Last Temptation of Christ, the latter considered his most controversial film, which was an adaptation of the book of NikosKazantzakis's The Last Temptation (1951).

Scorsese's finished shooting in 1988 with a modest budget knowing therewas going to be a blockbuster, but perhaps did not see coming sparkedcontroversy. Several cinemas were burned to prevent its development and in some countries was banned for 15 years.

After being nominated 8 times for an Oscar in the category of Best Director, finally an Oscar for The Departed (2006) is carried.

Besides the aforementioned Oscar, Scorsese also received three Golden Globes for Gangs of New York, Goodfellas and The Departed; two BAFTAfor Goodfellas, the Palme d'Or at Cannes for Taxi Driver, among other distinctions.

'Marty', as they call in Hollywood Scorsese, Robert De Niro took the protagonist of several of his films in the 1970s and 1990s.

In 2002, Scorsese directed Gangs of New York and marked the beginningof his association with Leonardo DiCaprio, star of his latest work: The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).J.V.O. 3º ESO
