TEXT TO VOICE

Hello. I want to help you a little with the pronunciation. I say ‘a little’ because the software I am going to talk about is still under development. Sometimes we are in doubt about how to say pronounce some words, specially when talking about false friends (pentagon, transparent, …). Our first try should be going to the dictionary and look at the phonetics but, when there are many words that we don’t know, this is a really slow method. Some browsers have the option of adding “Extensions” and we are going to focus on Firefox and Chrome. The extensions ‘Text to Voice‘ and ‘FoxVox‘ for Firefox and ‘Speak It‘ for Chrome add the speech functionality to your browser. Once installed, Text to Voice and Speak It it create a tiny speaker icon. You just need to select text, click the speaker icon and this add-on speaks the selected text: FoxVox, on the other side, doesn’t create any button. Just select the text on the web page, then right click, highlight Foxvox in the menu and choose Speak selected text. That’s all. They sound a little robotic, but you can imagine that Stephen Hawking is helping you. There are significant differences between Chrome and Firefox ‘extra capabilities’. Chrome extension automatically changes the language, but Firefox ones allow you to download the audio as MP3 (Text to Voice), OGG file and create a wave Audiofile (FoxVox). Written by Ies La Luz
